Our Board of Directors is comprised of 4 equal stakeholder groups; student, alum, faculty/staff and community members. The Board meets approximately 9 times a year and serves as the primary body responsible for fiduciary, legal and governance issues. We thank all of our members for their dedicated service.


Professor Marv Geller, School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS), became the fourth Stony Brook Professor sharing the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore for his participation in the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Professor Geller received the congratulatory letter from the United Nations Environment Programme on January 22, 2008 for his contribution in the assessment of stratospheric ozone depletion and climate change that lead to the Montreal Protocol.



Mark Snyder is president of Mark J. Snyder Financial Services, Inc., a full service financial consulting firm. Separately he is a Managing Executive of Royal Alliance Associates, Inc., a registered broker/dealer, and a member of FINRA/SIPC and AIG Advisor Group. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering Sciences degree at Stony Brook University and is a Qualified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant, Registered Financial Consultant, Certified Fund Specialist and Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor as indicated by the designations following his name. Many of his designations are earned through extensive study and tests administered by prestigious institutions.
Mr. Snyder has served as president of several professional organizations and remains actively involved the community. He is a vice president of the Suffolk County Council Boy Scouts of America, serving as chairman of their Trust Fund, and was recently awarded the Boy Scouts Silver Beaver Award. He is an active member of Rotary International in Patchogue, and was conferred with the distinction of being named a Paul Harris Fellow. Mark is also an active member of Temple Isaiah, Vice President of the Gloria & Mark Snyder Hillel Center at Stony Brook University, past president of SUNY Stony Brook Alumni Association and treasurer of Theater Three in Port Jefferson, in addition to freely contributing time and service to numerous other local charitable organizations.

Lee E. Koppelman (1928- ) dominated planning on Long Island from the 1960s until his May 2006 resignation from the Long Island Regional Planning Board. At age 81, he still serves as director of State University of New York at Stony Brook's Center for Regional Policy Studies.
